There are business collaborations that go far beyond commercial strategy and enter a more emotional, sensory and gastronomic dimension. The newly announced partnership between La Menorquina and Mars is precisely one of those. Starting January 1st, 2026, the historic ice-cream company born in Alaior will become the exclusive distributorof Mars ice-cream products —including the globally famous Mars®, Snickers®, Twix® bars and the colourful M&M’s® cone— across mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and Andorra.
What makes this alliance especially interesting for gastronomic readers is the meeting of two very different worlds. La Menorquina, founded 85 years ago by Fernando Sintes, represents the essence of Mediterranean ice-cream culture: artisanal recipes, ingredients connected to the land, and a way of understanding ice cream that evokes the rhythm, climate and flavours of island life. Mars, by contrast, embodies global pop culture: flavours recognised instantly across continents, products woven into everyday rituals and childhood memories, icons that transcend languages and borders.
By coming together, these two visions create a new chapter in Spain’s ice-cream landscape —one that blends territory with universality, tradition with nostalgia, and local identity with the irresistible pull of global favourites. The result is more than an expanded catalogue: it is a gastronomic proposition that deepens the emotional experience surrounding ice cream.
“This is the perfect balance between our heritage and modernity,” explains Iván Leal, CEO of La Menorquina. “We want to offer a wider range of experiences, connecting locals who grew up with our flavours with visitors seeking authenticity, but who also enjoy rediscovering the familiar tastes they associate with home.”
From Mars Wrigley Spain, João Sagreira highlights La Menorquina’s evolution in recent years: “Their repositioning has been remarkable. They’ve modernised without losing the artisanal, Mediterranean soul that defines them. That’s what makes this partnership so natural —we share values, ambition and a deep respect for the consumer.”
Beyond the corporate angle, the alliance has significant implications for the hospitality and tourism sector. Ice cream contains a powerful emotional charge: it’s linked to summer rituals, family holidays, moments by the sea, or simply the pleasure of a small indulgence at the right time. For international visitors, brands like Mars offer instant recognition and comfort; for locals, La Menorquina brings credibility, heritage and a strong connection to the territory. Together, they elevate a simple gesture —choosing an ice cream— into an experience that blends memory, discovery and pleasure.
This partnership also speaks to a broader trend in contemporary gastronomy: the dissolution of rigid borders. Today’s food culture embraces hybrid identities, unexpected pairings and the coexistence of the artisanal with the iconic. Ice cream, one of the most nostalgic and universal of treats, becomes a bridge that unites different ways of understanding flavour and emotion.
From 2026 onwards, the Spanish ice-cream scene will open up to new possibilities. Yet one thing will remain unmistakable: La Menorquina’s commitment to authenticity. Whether enjoying a traditional Mediterranean recipe or a global favourite, consumers will find in each bite that combination of craftsmanship, memory and joy that has defined the brand for nearly a century.
With this alliance, La Menorquina positions itself not only as a producer, but as a curator of experiences —a brand capable of bringing together worlds that, although different, share the same objective: to celebrate pleasure through ice cream.
