Thirty-three agri-food producers from the Balearic Islands showcase their products in Madrid at the event “Balearic Islands: 4 islands to savour”

A total of 33 agri-food companies from the Balearic Islands are taking part today, 12 November, in “Balearic Islands: 4 islands to savour”, a gastronomic promotional event held at the Kitchen Club in Madrid.

The initiative is jointly promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, through the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB).

The Director-General of Agri-food Quality and Local Product, Joan Llabrés Enseñat, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, inaugurated the event. Also attending were the Director of AETIB, Pere Joan Planas, and the Director-General of Tourism, Miquel Àngel Rosselló.

With this initiative, the Government aims to position local Balearic products as a benchmark for quality within the Spanish market, building strong connections between Balearic producers and distributors, restaurateurs and other professionals in the sector at a national level.

The event is structured in two sessions (from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm and from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm) and is attended by specialised professionals and media from the gastronomic and tourism sectors.

The first session focuses on professionals from the gastronomic and commercial sectors, with B2B meetings involving producers from the islands and sommeliers, distributors and representatives of the restaurant industry.

The second session, aimed at specialised media, includes once again the presentation of the products, a live cooking demonstration by the company Treurer and chef José Cortés—who has prepared a selection of tapas made with local products—as well as a tasting of wines from the Balearic Islands.

The group of participating companies reflects the diversity and quality of the Balearic agri-food sector:
15 wineries from different designations of origin and protected geographical indications (7103 Petit Celler, Ava Vï, Butxet, Can Vidalet, Castell Miquel, Can Fumat, Conde de Suyrot, Mesquida Mora, Vins Nadal, Jaume de Puntiró, Sa Cabana, Santa Catarina, Mortitx, Son Puig and Torralbenc);
4 producers of sobrasada and traditional sausages (Crisol, El Zagal, La Luna and Can Company);
3 cheese producers (Subaida, Quintana and Quesos Torralba);
6 distilleries and spirits producers (Destilería Jordi Perelló, Licors Moyà, Licores Aniseta, Dos Perellons, Mallorca Distillery and Xoriguer);
1 herbal tea producer (T’Estim);
1 jam maker (Hort de Baix);
1 olive oil producer (Treurer);
and two companies from the salt and cooperative sectors (Sal de Menorca and Camp Mallorquí).

This diversity highlights the quality and authenticity of local products from the four islands and reinforces their export potential and competitiveness in the national market.

As emphasised by the Director-General of Agri-food Quality and Local Product, Joan Llabrés, “these kinds of initiatives are essential to give visibility to our local products and generate commercial opportunities for producers, fostering internationalisation and expansion within the national market.”

For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, noted that “this event forms part of the strategy for the desaisonalisation and diversification of tourism segments that we are promoting from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports. We are moving towards a more balanced, sustainable and high-quality tourism model, in which the local gastronomy of each island is a strategic and distinctive pillar. It is an economic driver, yes, but it is also a reflection of our culture, our identity and our way of understanding life.”
