The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment has launched its institutional Christmas campaign to encourage the consumption of local products during the festive season. Under the slogan “This Christmas, local products”, the Government is rolling out a cross-cutting communication initiative that includes television commercials, radio spots, digital advertising and graphic inserts, with the aim of highlighting the quality, diversity and authenticity of food produced in the Balearic Islands. The campaign will remain active until 6 January 2026.
Christmas is traditionally a time for family gatherings and celebrations around the table. In the Balearic Islands, that table can be filled with a wide range of products from the land and the sea, transformed into iconic dishes from the traditional recipe book: sofrit pagès, stuffed squid, roast suckling pig, Christmas sauce, cuscussó, bullit de peix or almond nougat, among many others. As the campaign reminds us, these recipes originate in the daily work of local producers.
The Government also highlights the uniqueness of Balearic wines, made from native grape varieties such as manto negro, premsal blanc, gorgollassa, callet and giró ros, which add a distinctive character to festive gastronomy. In addition, the campaign points out that local products are equally suitable for international recipes, from lamb kefta to Menorcan aubergine parmigiana with Maó-Menorca cheese, Mallorcan chickpea falafel or bouillabaisse made with fish from the nearest port.
Consuming local products not only helps sustain agricultural, livestock and fishing activities in the Balearic Islands, but also strengthens food sovereignty and commitment to a sustainable model that protects the landscape, local varieties, native breeds and the region’s gastronomic culture.
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, has stressed that “local products are much more than food: they are identity, economy and future. Every time we choose a product from the Balearic Islands, we support hundreds of families who keep our countryside and our sea alive.” Simonet added that “this Christmas we want the tables in every home to reflect the effort and dedication of our producers, with food that is healthy, safe, sustainable and of outstanding quality.”
The minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the primary sector: “We work to ensure that our farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen have the tools and resources they need to continue carrying out an essential activity. Promoting the consumption of local products is a direct way to strengthen the territory and guarantee its continuity.”
The different elements of the campaign—audio-visual spots, radio messages and posters—share a common message: the best moments of the festive season are built with products that have origin, history and roots. The visual imagery shows a Christmas table with dishes prepared using local products and a shared toast, symbolising celebration, quality and tradition.
The Government invites all citizens to celebrate the holidays with the very best from our land and our sea.
This Christmas, local products.
