Mar de Frades Albariño 2025: Atlantic Freshness in a Glass

Mar de Frades Albariño 2025: Atlantic Freshness in a Glass

Bep Al·lès/Ciutadella - This week, Vinum Menorca's recommendation takes us to Galicia to discover Mar de Frades Albariño 2025, a 100% Albariño wine from the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin that represents one of the most recognisable expressions of this grape variety's Atlantic character. A fresh, vibrant and aromatic wine, presented in its unmistakable blue bottle, this new vintage combines intense fruit flavours, body and a distinctive salinity that inevitably evokes the proximity of the sea.

The grapes come from selected vineyards in Val do Salnés and Ribera do Ulla, both estate-owned and belonging to independent winegrowers. These two territories make it possible to explore different expressions of Albariño and create a wine in which freshness, fruit and complexity develop together.

TASTING NOTES

In the glass, it displays a very pale, bright and luminous yellow colour, with delicate greenish reflections.

On the nose, it offers an intense and elegant expression, with aromas of fresh grapes and mango, accompanied by floral notes reminiscent of gardenia and tuberose. As the wine opens up in the glass, vegetal and balsamic nuances emerge, adding depth and reinforcing its Atlantic profile.

On the palate, it is fresh, creamy and full-bodied, with precise acidity that brings tension and balance to the whole. Hints of bay leaf, mint and eucalyptus appear alongside a pronounced mineral sensation. Ageing on fine lees provides texture without diminishing its liveliness, leading to a persistent, fresh finish with the saline sensation so characteristic of Atlantic white wines.

RECOMMENDED FOOD PAIRINGS

The freshness and body of Mar de Frades Albariño 2025 allow us to go beyond the most predictable pairings and explore dishes in which salinity and acidity play an important role.

It pairs perfectly with oysters or gratinated cockles, served plain or with a few drops of lemon juice. It also goes well with clams in green sauce, steamed mussels, and razor clams or cockles cooked on the griddle.

It is an excellent accompaniment to sea bass ceviche with citrus fruits and coriander, sea bass tiradito, cubes of marinated salmon, tuna tataki or a tartare of Menorcan white prawns.

It brings a refreshing touch to oven-baked dishes such as Menorcan-style stuffed squid, baked dentex or red porgy with potatoes, a traditional Menorcan panadera made with scorpionfish, or a red prawn stew.

It is ideal with a brothy rice dish made with rockfish, a Menorcan lobster stew, a dry rice dish with rabbit and lobster, or a paella with red prawns, cuttlefish and chicken.

Mar de Frades Albariño 2025 is a white wine that speaks of the Atlantic, the granite soils of Rías Baixas and a grape variety that has found its fullest expression in this landscape. An Albariño with vibrancy, but also body and depth, capable of being enjoyed as an aperitif and, above all, demonstrating a remarkable gastronomic versatility. You can find it at Vinum Menorca, at its shop in the industrial estate of Ciutadella or through its online store.
