The Directorate General of Public Health, together with the Civil Guard, has seized 20 tons of seafood and fish unfit for human consumption as part of the inspections they regularly conduct. Public Health has opened a sanctioning proceeding against the company responsible, amounting to 90,000 euros.
Public Health technicians, supported by agents from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), carried out an inspection last April at a seafood and fish distribution company located in Palma. During the operation, they found a stored batch of 20 tons of product, most of which had an expired best-before date — with lots dating back to 2019 — and they also detected food items that had broken the cold chain and were subsequently refrozen.
As a result of the inspection, the Directorate General of Public Health ordered the immediate seizure and immobilization of the entire batch, preventing these products from reaching the public. At the same time, a sanctioning proceeding was initiated for two very serious violations related to public health regulations and consumer protection, with a fine of 90,000 euros.
