Can Seler, the tradition of giant paellas born from a family story in Ferreries

Bep Al·lès / Ferreries – Menorcan gastronomy has welcomed a new initiative with a distinctive identity of its own. From Ferreries, Joan Pons Gomila has launched Can Seler – Artisan Paellas, a project that brings back the essence of large popular celebrations through giant paellas cooked in the traditional way for special events throughout Menorca.

Behind this initiative lies a story shaped by a passion for traditional cooking and by memories shared around a good table. The origins of Can Seler can be traced back to a very special image that Joan Pons treasures: a large paella cooked together with Pedro Seguí Orfila during the celebration of the 30th birthday of Marta Seguí, Pedro’s daughter and Joan’s current partner. That day left a lasting impression which has now evolved into a gastronomic project with an identity of its own.

Can Seler was created with the aim of bringing the flavour of tradition to birthdays, village festivities, family gatherings, private celebrations and events of all kinds. The project is committed to artisan preparation, respect for quality ingredients and food designed to be shared, keeping alive the spirit of the great paellas that have been part of so many Mediterranean celebrations.

The images accompanying the project show spectacular large-scale paellas prepared with seafood, fish and other carefully selected ingredients, capable of bringing dozens of people together around a shared gastronomic experience. Beyond the culinary result itself, the initiative also celebrates the value of togetherness and shared occasions.

The Can Seler logo, featuring a steaming paella, symbolises this connection between tradition and the future. According to Joan Pons himself, the project is also a tribute to Pedro Seguí and to all those people who have passed on their love for popular, traditional cooking. It is a way of showing that great stories often begin around a burning fire, a shared paella and the desire to create memories that will endure over time.
