The “banyes” of Alaior, a sweet treat to discover

Menorcan pastry-making and confectionery are perhaps among the richest in the Balearic Islands, as they have absorbed not only the Mediterranean influences also present in Mallorca and the Pityusic Islands, but also those brought by British and French rule during the 18th century.

Each town in Menorca preserves its own traditional pastry or confection, and today we recommend the so-called “banyes d’Alaior”—a sweet made from puff pastry, shaped like a horn, filled with meringue or custard with meringue inside, and topped with a generous swirl of toasted meringue on the outside.

They are mainly found in the central area of the island, and we suggest sharing them.
