The Balearic Government presents the manual for the use of the local product logo with the objective of promoting and promoting consumption

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Medicine, Joan Simonet, accompanied by the general director of Qualitat Agroalimentària i Producte Local, Joan Llabrés, has presented here the manual for the use of the local product logo. The main objective is to promote and promote the consumption of agro-food products from the Balearic Islands. In this sense, the minister explained that "with this initiative, the Ministry adheres to a historical demand of the primary sector, which required an identification of the local product to present it in value and differentiate it from the rest." Així, "we demonstrate, once again, our commitment to the sector and to supporting the various demands, with the main goal of guaranteeing the profitability of agricultural exploitations."

The manual, which can be consulted at the microlloc de producte local, includes the local product logos approved by the Government and the consensus and approval of agricultural organizations and the six conditions of use. Pel que fa als distintius, the Conselleria has not approved two types. For one band, a generic logo to identify everything that follows local products and, on the other hand, another type that allows to differentiate the use of local varieties and if the product is 100% of local origin.

Here, according to type, there are three categories: to identify products in which all ingredients are local products and, moreover, come from local varietals or native roots; for products in which all ingredients are local and, finally, a third for all products in which the primary ingredient is local. Furthermore, each logo can identify the origin of the product indicating the Balearic Islands or the name of the island of origin.

The logo is an adaptation of the one used by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports to promote the Balearic Islands as a tourist destination. Precisely in this sense, Minister Simonet has highlighted that "it comes from a renowned brand that is directly related to the Balearic Islands and will facilitate the relationship of the product to its origin and its continued implementation in the market."

During the act, which has included the Terragust facilities and which has also been attended by representatives of agricultural organizations and producers, Minister Simonet has explained that "with these distinctions, consumers will be able to recognize and facilitate the local agri-food products, which stand out for them. “unique characteristics and excellent quality”. Simonet has detailed that these logos can be used, voluntarily, to indicate the origin or location of the products, and they can also appear on the product labels.

In this line, the general director of Qualitat Agroalimentària i Producte Local, Joan Llabrés, has highlighted that "along with the logos and the user manual, the producers have an official mechanism to differentiate the products originating from the Balearic Islands. Furthermore, consumers have information that verifies the origin of the product. A fet that fins ara was not regulated.

These distinctions can be used by operators who produce, prepare, distribute or market products defined in the agricultural law as a local product. They are, specifically, the agricultural, fishing and forestry producers; the operators of the agri-food industry; food distribution and retail trade. Also, tourist establishments, collective catering and catering establishments and public or private entities, in actions aimed at promoting the production, distribution, marketing or consumption of local products. In order to use them, they must present a prior communication and a responsible declaration to the Department.
