Punyetero, the rebellious sip of Mallorcan tradition

In Mallorca, traditional drinks do more than refresh or accompany a meal: they tell stories of history, customs and identity. Mesclat is a perfect example, and Punyetero Mesclat, handcrafted by Dos Perellons, represents a faithful, no-frills version of it. A deeply rooted liqueur that revives a formula as simple as it is powerful: 50% palo and 50% anise.

Unlike other Mallorcan liqueurs often associated with herbs, mesclat contains none. Its essence lies in the precise combination of two drinks with strong personalities. On one side, palo: bitter, dark and intense, traditionally made from cinchona bark and other bitter elements, and deeply embedded in the island’s popular culture. On the other, anise: sweet, aromatic and clear, bringing softness and balance. Together, they create a liqueur with character, yet surprisingly harmonious.

For generations, mesclat has been a drink closely linked to rural life and everyday traditions. It was commonly found at pig slaughter gatherings, family get-togethers or after a hearty meal, served in a small glass as a digestif or simply as a shared moment. It was not meant to impress, but to be enjoyed together.

Punyetero Mesclat embraces this tradition without toning it down. The name itself signals a clear attitude: intensity and authenticity. On the palate, the first impact comes from the palo, with its distinctive bitterness, followed by the sweetness of anise, which rounds out the flavour and prolongs the finish. It is a straightforward, honest liqueur, made for palates that seek no compromises.

The label highlights its artisanal production and 100% Mallorcan origin, but above all it reflects a commitment to preserving a popular recipe that forms part of the island’s gastronomic heritage. Mesclat is neither a trend nor a modern reinterpretation: it is liquid memory.

Served at room temperature or slightly chilled, Punyetero Mesclat invites you to sip slowly and remember that sometimes the strength of gastronomy lies in well-understood simplicity. A small sip, but with a strong identity.

Tasting note
Deep, dark colour with amber highlights. On the nose, aromatic bitterness from the palo stands out, with balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate, it is intense and dry at first, gradually giving way to the sweetness of anise, which brings balance and a long, lingering finish.

Food pairing suggestion
Best enjoyed as a digestif after a traditional meal. Pairs well with aged local cheeses, toasted almonds, cured sobrassada or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
