The Balearic Islands Government holds the third Gathering of Regional Associations and Centres, with Aragon taking centre stage

The Balearic Islands Government has held the third Gathering of Regional Associations and Centres at the Son Pardo Racecourse, an event dedicated to sharing the traditions, culture and roots of the different Spanish autonomous communities represented in Balearic society. The Director General for Institutional and Parliamentary Relations, Xesca Ramis; the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; and the President of the Regional Associations, José Martínez, joined the participating organisations at this year's gathering, which placed the Centre Aragonès de Mallorca in the spotlight.

Ramis expressed her particular gratitude for the dedication of all those who work throughout the year to keep their traditions alive, bring families together and introduce younger generations to their cultural roots. In this regard, she highlighted the contribution of regional associations to the cultural and social richness of the Balearic Islands, as well as their work to preserve ties with their places of origin and pass this heritage on to future generations.

This year, the Centre Aragonès de Mallorca was responsible for introducing attendees to the culture and traditions of Aragon, following the Hogar Canario's leading role in the previous edition. The programme included a lunch dedicated to Aragonese cuisine and a performance by SONIANDO, a school of Aragonese folklore, which showcased the region's traditional music and dance.

The other participating regional associations also shared their cultural expressions. Amigos Rocieros presented a sevillanas dance performance; the Casa de Cantàbria took part with a choral performance; the Hogar Canario performed its traditional parranda, and the Casa d'Andalusia appeared with the Isla Sur rociero group.

Music and dance were the common thread running through a gathering that provides an opportunity to share the roots of each community and introduce them to the wider public. In this regard, Ramis emphasised that "regional associations are an important part of our cultural and social life because you maintain ties with your places of origin while sharing this richness with all of us who live in the Balearic Islands."

The gathering also provided an opportunity to recognise the dedication of those who, often on a voluntary basis, organise activities, keep their traditions alive and create opportunities for people to come together throughout the year. Their work helps preserve the roots of each community while sharing them with the rest of Balearic society.

As every year, the event also included a draw to decide which regional association would take centre stage at the next edition. On this occasion, the Casa de València a Calvià-Falla del Toro was selected and will have the opportunity to showcase its culture, traditions and cuisine at the fourth Gathering of Regional Associations and Centres.

Eleven organisations were represented at the gathering: Casa d'Andalusia a les Balears, Hogar Canario en Islas Baleares, Centre Aragonès, Centre Gallec de Mallorca, Casa Regional de Múrcia, Casa Regional Valenciana a Mallorca, Euskal Etxea Artea, Casa de València a Calvià-Falla del Toro, Casa Regional Madrilenya a les Balears, Associació d'Andalusos Amigos Rocieros de Mallorca and Casa de Cantàbria a Mallorca.
