More than 1,200 vocational training students specialising in cooking, pastry-making and baking have taken part in motivational talks organised by the Balearic Islands Government through the collective brand Pa d’aquí, forn i tradició. The aim of this initiative is to introduce young people to success stories and new ways of working in the sector that may inspire future generations to pursue a career in the profession. The Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency (ADRBalears) launched this initiative three years ago to address one of the sector's greatest challenges: the lack of generational renewal.

This morning, the School of Hospitality of the Balearic Islands hosted a masterclass as part of the activities organised for Bread Week 2026. Baker Mauro Benseñor, co-founder of Forn de Barri, shared his entrepreneurial experience and his innovative, contemporary vision of the profession with around 150 students from the School of Hospitality and the Josep Sureda i Blanes, Juníper Serra and IES Calvià educational centres. Forn de Barri currently operates three establishments located in Fornalutx, Sóller and Palma. At the end of the session, attendees had the opportunity to taste a selection of products made by the company.

ADRBalears maintains ongoing collaboration with both industry professionals and educational institutions to promote new opportunities for cooperation. Among the initiatives developed is the effort to connect schools with bakers, making it easier for students to undertake work placements in bakeries. This approach has already been successfully implemented over the past two academic years.

Together with the Association of Bakers and Pastry Makers, ADRBalears manages the collective brand Pa d’aquí, forn i tradició, which has 270 affiliated establishments with their own production facilities. These bakeries offer at least two types of traditional bread and produce 70% of the products they sell. One of the main objectives is to ensure that consumers associate this label with high-quality, healthy and locally produced products.
