The 45th Festa de la Ratafia in Santa Coloma de Farners, in the La Selva district of Girona, will host an event dedicated to the liqueur-making traditions of the Balearic Islands on Sunday 8 November. The featured guest will be Pep Natta, a master artisan liqueur maker, who will lead a guided tasting of Mallorcan liqueurs at Casa de la Paraula.

The event begins at 4.30 pm, with free admission and advance booking required. It will offer participants an introduction to a part of Mallorca's gastronomic heritage closely connected to aromatic herbs, maceration techniques and artisanal knowledge passed down through generations.

The culture of traditional liqueurs

Mallorca has a long tradition of liqueur production, including Mallorcan herbal liqueurs, almond liqueurs and other preparations associated with popular culture. These drinks form part of the history of households, family celebrations and the island's gastronomic customs.

The tasting led by Pep Natta will provide an opportunity to explore this world, discover the distinctive characteristics of Mallorcan liqueurs and appreciate the importance of artisanal craftsmanship in preserving this heritage.

The event forms part of a festival closely associated with ratafia, a traditional Catalan liqueur made by macerating green walnuts, aromatic plants and spices, with recipes that can vary considerably from one producer to another.

A bridge between Mediterranean traditions

Pep Natta to explore the secrets of Mallorcan liqueurs at the Festa de la Ratafia

The presence of a Mallorcan master liqueur maker in Santa Coloma de Farners creates a dialogue between two gastronomic cultures that share knowledge of plants, the use of natural resources and the artisanal production of spirits.

This meeting highlights how traditional liqueurs are much more than drinks: they are expressions of gastronomic memory, landscapes and the customs of each region.

Pep Natta's tasting will offer an opportunity to discover Mallorca's rich liqueur heritage in one of Catalonia's most emblematic centres of ratafia culture.
