Foodies on Menorca
The short film “Cooking as a Beacon”, promoted by the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation and Menorca European Region of Gastronomy 2022, and starring young chef Óscar Roca, has won First Prize at the Food Film Menu 2025.
Financed with European funds, the film received this recognition at a competition organised by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism, which held its awards ceremony in Gozo (Malta) — the island recently named European Region of Gastronomy 2026.
Produced by the agency Be Creative, the audiovisual piece tells the personal story of Óscar Roca and his deep passion for the island’s cuisine. The short film follows his journey of growth and discovery, illustrating how gastronomy has been a true beacon guiding him through moments of uncertainty. The film had already been awarded as Best Film in the European Regions of Gastronomy category, which qualified it to compete — and win — in the final round of the contest.
The Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, responsible for promoting Menorca’s designation as European Region of Gastronomy 2022, continues to champion the island’s culinary identity and to support young culinary talentssuch as Óscar Roca, winner of the Jove Xef Menorquí 2024 competition, which led him to compete in the European Young Chef Award 2024 in Sicily.
Óscar Roca himself collected the prize on the island of Gozo, where he received the recognition of many figures linked to gastronomy and cultural promotion within the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism.
Awards like this demonstrate that Menorcan gastronomy is steadily gaining international recognition as one of the island’s greatest attractions and a symbol of identity to be cherished and promoted.
