Fira del Peix i de la Mar turns Fornells into a showcase for Menorca’s seafood and maritime culture

Foodie travellers visiting Menorca today, Sunday, 11 October, will find in Fornells an experience closely connected to local produce and the island’s maritime identity. The 1st Fira del Peix i de la Mar de Fornells celebrates its closing day with gastronomy, live cooking, activities related to fishing and music, all set in one of Menorca’s ports with the strongest seafaring traditions.

The fair was created to highlight local fish, maritime trades and a fishing culture that has been part of life in Fornells for generations. For gastronomic travellers, above all, it is an opportunity to connect what arrives on the plate with the fishermen, boats, nets and maritime landscape behind it.

One of today’s main attractions will be the gastronomic offer from participating restaurants, which from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm will serve tapas specially created for the fair. It is an informal way to discover different interpretations of seafood cuisine without leaving Fornells.

The programme begins at 10.00 am with a free trip aboard the Bot Salvavides, with advance registration and limited places. At 11.30 am, chef Emilio Samblás García, from Casa Emilio, will lead a live cooking demonstration preparing a traditional amberjack panadera, placing local seafood at the heart of the recipe.

At 12.30 pm, an event will pay tribute to the people of the sea and recognise the senior skippers of the Fornells Fishermen’s Guild. Music will round off the programme at 1.00 pm, with a performance by Joana Pons i ses Guitarresin Plaça de s’Algaret.

For foodie travellers, the day combines gastronomy with a deeper understanding of the destination: walk around the harbour, taste the fair’s tapas, watch the live cooking demonstration and discover more about the relationship between Fornells, fishing and Menorcan cuisine. An autumn experience that brings the sea directly to the table.
