Foodies on Menorca
Foodie travellers visiting Menorca during these dates have an excellent opportunity to discover one of the meats most closely connected to the island. The Vedella Vermella Menorquina Gastronomic Days celebrate their eighth edition on 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 October, with 14 restaurants located across different municipalities of Menorca.
The initiative, organised by PIME Menorca’s Association of Cafés, Bars and Restaurants and the Association of Menorca Native Cattle Breeders, aims to raise awareness of this indigenous breed and encourage the consumption of a high-quality local product through the restaurant sector. Participating establishments will offer different gastronomic creations prepared with meat identified by the Vermella Menorquina and Vermella Menorquina Eco quality labels.
For foodie travellers, these gastronomic days can turn a journey around Menorca into a culinary route through different towns, restaurants and interpretations of the same product. They are also a way to understand how local livestock farming reaches the table and to discover the versatility of a meat closely linked to Menorca’s agricultural landscape.
In Ciutadella, the participating restaurants are Jaume II, Pins46, Café Balear and Pizzeria Roma; in Ferreries, Mesón Rias Baixas; in Es Mercadal, Hotel Jeni & Restaurante, Molí d’es Racó, Mesón Can Jaume and Es Tomàtic; in Fornells, Sa Fonda; in Es Migjorn, Restaurante Don Tomás; in Maó, El Grill; in Sant Lluís, Sa Pedrera des Pujol; and in Arenal d’en Castell, Viva la Pepa.
Held since 2019, the Vedella Vermella Menorquina Gastronomic Days have become an established part of the annual calendar promoting this native cattle breed. The initiative creates a direct connection between the livestock sector and restaurants, while helping to showcase a product that forms part of Menorca’s agri-food heritage.
Taking place in October also gives the event particular interest for gastronomic travellers. The gastronomic days help maintain the island’s culinary activity during autumn and provide an additional reason to explore Menorca beyond the main summer months, combining landscapes, towns, restaurants and local produce.
For travellers who want to delve deeper into Menorcan gastronomy, the idea is simple: choose several restaurants, discover how each one interprets Vedella Vermella Menorquina and turn lunch or dinner into an experience connected to the land, local farmers and Menorcan cuisine.
