Foodies on Menorca
Cream-filled fritters were one of the desserts for special occasions and were almost always present at major festivities, such as the Sant Joan celebrations in Ciutadella, name days and special family gatherings.
Today, this product, which cannot be considered entirely native to our pastry tradition but has been rooted for over a century, is gradually disappearing, and only a few traditional bakeries still offer it to their customers, such as Forn de Can Diego in Ciutadella, where the photograph was taken.
Made from choux pastry, the same used for cream éclairs, they are filled with homemade custard and dusted with powdered sugar on top.
It is one of the sweets or desserts that we must preserve, as it is at risk of disappearing due to globalization.
