UNED Illes Balears dedicates a Summer Course to gastronomy as a cultural and visual narrative

UNED Illes Balears includes in its 2026 Summer Courses programme in Menorca a proposal focused on gastronomy understood as a historical, cultural, tourist and visual phenomenon.

The course, entitled “Gastronomy and visual culture: narratives, practices, discourses and representations”, will be held in Maó from 29 June to 1 July 2026 and will be one of the three in-person activities organised by UNED this year at the Aula de Menorca. It will also be available to follow online, either live or on demand.

The proposal offers an interdisciplinary approach to food and to the way gastronomy is represented in cinema, audiovisual media, contemporary art and identity narratives. The course aims to analyse how images, discourses and practices linked to food help construct gastronomic and cultural imaginaries.

This activity is aimed at students, professionals and anyone interested in gastronomy, culture, tourism, communication and the humanities. Like the rest of UNED’s Summer Courses, it has a duration of 20 teaching hours and grants 1 ECTS credit.

The flexible format allows participants to choose between in-person attendance, live online participation or later access on demand.
