Foodies on Menorca
In rural Menorca, in an old farmhouse in the heart of the island, a family has taken on a challenge as romantic as it is delicious: to revive the cider-making tradition the English brought to Menorca in the 18th century. This is how Sidra Kane was born: a smooth, aromatic and very drinkable cider that carries a little piece of history in every sip.
For foodies and lovers of authentic gastronomic experiences, Sidra Kane is much more than a drink: it is an immersion in the Menorcan landscape, in the island’s memory, and in a way of producing that looks to the future without giving up its roots.
The visit to Sidra Kane begins at their historic farmhouse, surrounded by countryside, silence and dry-stone walls. This is where they produce natural cider in an artisanal way, following careful, product-respectful processes.
The family explains to visitors the journey to recover the cider tradition on the island and how they have created their own cider, smooth and easy to drink, designed both for tastings and to accompany Menorcan and contemporary cuisine.
During the guided tour you can discover:
The facilities where the cider is made
The production process, from the fruit to the bottle
The philosophy behind every decision: proximity, sustainability and respect for the land
All of this in an environment that invites you to switch off and enjoy the most authentic inland Menorca.
One of the reasons Sidra Kane has such a strong personality is the “d’en Kane” apple variety, the true star of the project.
This variety is closely linked to Sir Richard Kane, governor of Menorca between 1712 and 1736. Besides promoting the famous road that connects Maó and Ciutadella, the camí d’en Kane, he also pushed for agricultural improvements such as the drainage of wetlands and the introduction of new fodder crops, including this apple variety that today gives both name and soul to the cider.
Every bottle of Sidra Kane is, in a way, a tribute to this historical and agricultural legacy that shaped the island’s landscape and economy.
Sidra Kane is also a project designed for those who value conscious and responsible products:
