Foodies on Menorca
Located in the southern part of the Bay of Fornells, Salines de la Concepció is currently the only active saltworks in Menorca and a remarkable example of the island’s recovered productive heritage. The project has brought back the tradition of artisanal sea salt production, fully respecting natural cycles and the environmental balance of a protected area, where posidonia plays a key role in maintaining water quality.
Marketed under the brand Sal de Menorca, the saltworks produces fleur de sel and virgin sea salt, highly appreciated by local cuisine and fine dining alike. Fleur de sel is hand-harvested from the surface of the ponds and stands out for its delicate crunch, fine texture and mineral richness. Virgin sea salt crystallises at the bottom of the ponds and is mainly used for cooking, especially in traditional dishes such as salt-baked fish.
The award for Best Producer at the Foodies on Menorca Awards has reinforced the project’s position as a model combining quality, identity and sustainability. Beyond production, Salines de la Concepció is committed to sharing its knowledge, welcoming schools, groups and visitors to discover the craft of the salt worker and the history of this unique landscape.
