Sa Cudia, giving the countryside a second life through Malvasia

Sa Cudia is a winemaking project born from a deep commitment to the land and family heritage. When the Martínez Jover brothers lost their grandfather, they were determined that the estate where he had lived and worked all his life would not be abandoned. Despite having no previous farming background and working in professions far removed from agriculture, they chose to give the land a second life, preserving it and adapting it to new times.

After removing livestock and witnessing the rapid deterioration of the soil, they opted for a Mediterranean crop that required less constant attention. Among the available options, vineyards proved to be the most suitable choice. Sa Cudia thus emerged as a wine-growing estate, overcoming initial challenges such as obtaining vineyard planting rights—an unprecedented and complex process on the island at the time. In fact, Sa Cudia was among the first estates in Menorca to secure these rights and the first to focus exclusively on white wine production.

The decision to work with a single grape variety, Malvasia, defines the identity of the winery. Well adapted to the harsh conditions of the estate—exposed to the tramontane winds and maritime climate—this grape produces low yields and requires meticulous care. Harvests are very limited and carried out by hand, resulting in distinctive white wines with strong character.

The flagship wine, Sa Cudia, is complemented by an oxidative Malvasia made from a blend of different vintages, widely appreciated as a dry dessert wine with no added sugar. A discreet project, far from mass tourism, that prioritises quality, originality and the preservation of Menorca’s rural landscape.
