President of the Island Council receives a visit from the Balearic Gastronomy Academy

Bep Al·lès/Maó – The President of the Island Council of Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca, received on Friday, 5 June, a delegation from the recently established Balearic Gastronomy Academy, an organisation created with the aim of preserving, studying, promoting and disseminating the gastronomic heritage of the Balearic Islands.

The delegation was headed by the Academy’s President, Gabriel Morell, and also included Vice-President José Luis Roses and Treasurer Perico Gual. The meeting was also attended by Menorcan representatives Bàrbara Lluch, Bep Al·lès (Foodies on Menorca) and Antoni Juaneda.

The meeting forms part of the Academy’s round of institutional contacts with the various administrations of the Balearic Islands following its official presentation. The organisation brings together professionals, researchers, communicators and experts linked to the world of gastronomy, with the aim of promoting the cuisine, products and culinary traditions of the archipelago.

During the meeting, the Academy’s representatives presented the President with the main objectives of the new institution, including the defence and promotion of Balearic gastronomy, the preservation of traditional recipes, the promotion of local products, and the encouragement of research and gastronomic knowledge.

For his part, Adolfo Vilafranca highly praised the creation of the Balearic Gastronomy Academy and highlighted the importance of having an organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting a heritage that forms part of the identity of each of the islands.

“Gastronomy is an expression of our culture, our history and our way of life. Menorca has its own culinary tradition and products of exceptional quality that deserve to be protected, studied and promoted. The creation of this Academy is excellent news for the Balearic Islands as a whole,” the President stated.
