Menorca Sets the Table for the Eclipse: Restaurants and Terraces from Which to Experience the Great Darkness of 12 August

It has also turned the terraces of restaurants, hotels and bars with open views towards the west into some of the most sought-after places of the summer. Dining while the Moon completely covers the Sun will be an exceptional experience, but not all coastal terraces offer the same guarantees: the phenomenon will take place very low over the western horizon, and any cliff, building, vegetation or landform may block the view.

In Menorca, the partial phase will begin at around 7.38 pm and totality will arrive at 8.30 pm. The Sun will set shortly afterwards while still partially eclipsed, making it essential to have a clear, low view towards the west. The Balearic Government also reminds the public that approved eclipse glasses must be worn during all partial phases; only during the moments of totality may the phenomenon be viewed directly.

The research carried out confirms several gastronomic experiences organised especially for that day. In contrast, at other establishments located in potentially favourable spots, there is currently no record of any specific menu or celebration having been published. This does not mean that they are not preparing one, only that no verifiable announcement has been found.

Artrutx Sea Club: gastronomy, champagne and music during totality

The most clearly defined proposal is that of Artrutx Sea Club, located by the Cap d’Artrutx lighthouse, one of the places most directly oriented towards the open sea and the final path of the Sun. Lago Resort Menorca has announced a special evening with gastronomy, a Moët & Chandon welcome drink, live music and approved eclipse glasses. The published price is €125 per person, VAT included, and places are limited.

The gastronomic programme includes starters to share, a main course prepared with local, seasonal produce, dessert and protective eyewear. The establishment presents the experience as a complete seaside celebration, taking advantage of the elevated position and western horizon of the lighthouse.

It is also one of the cases that confirms the extent to which the eclipse has transformed the usual demand for sunset tables. By early July, the best-positioned restaurants and clubs on the western side of the island were already beginning to run out of tables between 7.30 and 8.30 pm, while still having availability before or after that time slot.

Torre Vella: a cliff-top table with the cuisine of Gabriel González

Another extraordinary experience will be the one organised by Outstanding in the Field at Fontenille Menorca Torre Vella. This is not a standard restaurant service, but a special outdoor dinner, with a long table set up on a cliff and a view advertised as being open towards the west.

The event is scheduled to take place approximately between 4 and 9 pm. The guest chef will be Gabriel González Andrade, from the restaurant Hum?. The organisers state that the ingredients will come mainly from the surrounding countryside and sea, and that the beginning of the eclipse will coincide with the dinner.

The experience emphasises the combination of rural landscape, Menorcan produce and astronomy. Its exact location and the layout of the table have been chosen specifically to provide an unobstructed western horizon, a condition that cannot be taken for granted at every establishment along the southern coast.

Vestige Son Ermità: a menu inspired by the eclipse

Vestige Collection has prepared an experience reserved for guests staying at its properties. The observation will take place at Vestige Son Ermità, an elevated country estate in northern Menorca surrounded by approximately 800 hectares of protected land. The offer requires a minimum three-night stay including the night of 12 August, as well as the additional purchase of the eclipse package.

According to the published information, executive chef Joan Bagur has created a menu inspired by the phenomenon and by the flavours of Menorca. Dinner will be accompanied by wines and live music, and will include transfers from the Vestige properties and protective glasses. The announced supplement is €160 per person.

It is therefore not an independent restaurant reservation open to the general public, but an experience linked to accommodation.

Menorca Experimental: the “Umbra” cocktail and a sound session

Menorca Experimental has also created a specific programme. Guests will find approved glasses in their rooms and a map showing observation points, while an area will be prepared within the estate from which to watch the phenomenon.

The bar will serve the “Umbra” cocktail throughout the day, made with Tequila Ocho, tonka syrup, grapefruit juice and lime, at an announced price of €16. Before the eclipse, a sound-healing session has been scheduled from 7 to 8 pm, costing €45 and also open to outside visitors.

In this case, it is advisable to ask the hotel directly from which specific point the eclipse will be observed. The estate is located in the south of the island, and the actual visibility of the Sun, very low towards the west, will depend on the horizon available from the designated area.

Coral Menorca: tasting menu and guided observation by the sea

Coral Menorca will celebrate the eclipse with an evening created especially for the occasion. The proposal includes a tasting menu, approved special glasses for observing the phenomenon, a photography service, a musical selection designed to accompany the evening and the presence of an astronomer with a telescope.

The experience will take place by the sea, on one of the best-known terraces on the western coast of Ciutadella for watching the sunset. The announced price starts at €220 per person and, according to the establishment, only a few reservations remain available.

Its western orientation and proximity to the sea make it one of the establishments with the greatest potential demand. Even so, before booking, it is advisable to confirm that the assigned table has a direct view of the horizon, as the restaurant does not guarantee the choice of a specific table.

Eolo Sunset Bar and other venues in Cales Piques

Eolo Sunset Bar, also in Cales Piques, appears in local guides to sunset experiences and is located in one of the best-oriented coastal areas of Ciutadella. The available information identifies it as a sunset bar, but it has not been possible to verify whether it has announced an entrance fee, minimum spend or special celebration for the eclipse.

The same caution should be applied to other bars and restaurants in Cala en Blanes, Los Delfines, Cala en Forcat and Cala Blanca. The local press confirms that many were already almost fully booked during the eclipse time slot and that some establishments were preparing set menus or a minimum spend. However, the names of all these businesses and their specific conditions have not been published, so it would not be rigorous to attribute a particular offer to them.

Voramar: dinner facing the western horizon

Voramar Restaurant, located in the Cales Piques area, is another notable option for following the eclipse from the western coast of Ciutadella. Its terrace, open to the Mediterranean and well known for its sunsets, makes it possible to combine observation of the phenomenon with dinner or a drink by the sea.

Because of its west-facing position, the establishment benefits from a favourable location, although it is advisable to confirm that the reserved table has a direct and unobstructed view of the horizon. No verifiable public announcement of a special menu or programme for 12 August has been found.

Club Menorca, in Cala en Porter: an extraordinary panorama, but the horizon must be confirmed

Club Menorca has a restaurant terrace located around thirty metres above the sea, with panoramic views over Cala en Porter and, on clear days, the northern coast of Mallorca. It opens for dinner from 6.45 pm, fully coinciding with the development of the eclipse.

No special activity announced for 12 August has been found. Furthermore, although the views are extensive, the shape of the cove and the cliffs means that it is necessary to ask the establishment whether the exact point on the western horizon where the Sun will be located can be seen from the table.

This warning also applies to Cova d’en Xoroi and other terraces along the southern coast: the fact that a venue is known for its sunsets does not necessarily guarantee a complete view of an eclipse that will take place at a very low altitude.

Santandria and Cala Blanca: privileged terraces on the coast of Ciutadella

Along the coast south of Ciutadella, there are other establishments that, because of their usual association with sunsets, deserve to be included in the selection of possible restaurants and bars from which to watch the total eclipse on 12 August. These are Hotel and Restaurant Bahia, in Santandria, and The Blarney Stone, Il Vespro and Hola Ola, in Cala Blanca.

In all four cases, however, an important precaution must be maintained: the fact that the sunset is normally visible from a terrace does not guarantee that all tables will allow guests to observe totality. In Ciutadella, the eclipse will begin at 7.37 pm, the total phase will take place approximately between 8.30 and 8.31 pm, and the Sun will be only around two degrees above the horizon, in a west-north-westerly direction. Sunset is expected at around 8.45 pm. Therefore, any element positioned in front of the horizon—a wall, a pergola, vegetation, boats, a building or the coastal terrain itself—may prove decisive.

Hotel and Restaurant Bahia, in Santandria

Hotel and Restaurant Bahia occupies a distinctive position overlooking Santandria cove. The restaurant terrace faces the sea and is known precisely for its views across the bay and for the possibility of dining while the Sun sets. Public images and information from the establishment show an outdoor dining area located practically on the beach, with an open perspective through the entrance to the cove.

This location makes it an option worth considering, especially for those who would like to combine the observation with a seafood dinner. Nevertheless, Santandria is a relatively narrow cove, and the visibility of the Sun when it is so low will depend on the exact angle available from each table. The recommendation is to ask the restaurant directly whether the terrace will have a clear view towards an azimuth of 288 degrees, in other words towards the west-north-west.

So far, no verifiable public announcement has been found regarding a special menu, a specific reservation or an activity organised by Bahia for the eclipse. This does not rule out the possibility of an initiative or special conditions for that day, but these should be confirmed directly with the establishment.

The Blarney Stone, in Cala Blanca

The Blarney Stone is one of Cala Blanca’s most popular bar-restaurants for watching the sunset. Its terrace faces the western coast, and the most recent references, including reviews published during 2026, highlight the direct view of the sunset over the sea and, on clear days, the silhouette of Mallorca in the distance.

The establishment offers an informal menu of burgers, pub food, tapas, cocktails and drinks, and it is usually very busy during the evening hours. For this reason, booking well in advance will be especially important on 12 August. It will also be advisable to ask specifically for a table with an outdoor view, as not all seats at the venue occupy an equivalent front-line position facing the horizon.

No reliable publication has been found announcing, for the time being, a set menu, special entrance fee, minimum spend or celebration created specifically for the eclipse. Its inclusion in the report is therefore based on its location and the usual visibility of the sunset, not on the existence of a confirmed programme.

Il Vespro, also in Cala Blanca

Very close to The Blarney Stone is Il Vespro, a family restaurant with a terrace and views over Cala Blanca bay. The establishment itself presents it as a sea-view restaurant where guests can dine during the sunset. Its menu includes tapas, paellas, fish, seafood, meat, burgers, pizzas, wines and cocktails. According to the information published on its official website, it opens every day from 6 to 11 pm, a time slot that fully covers the development of the eclipse.

Il Vespro is located opposite the Cala Blanca sunset viewpoint, a position that gives it a privileged western perspective. The available references also confirm that the Sun can be seen disappearing over the sea from the terrace.

As in the other cases, it has not been possible to verify that the restaurant has announced a special menu or specific activity for 12 August. The reservation should be made by clearly requesting an outdoor table with a view towards the horizon, without assuming that every place on the terrace will offer the same perspective.

Hola Ola Beach Bar: informal atmosphere facing the Cala Blanca sunset

Hola Ola Beach Bar is another option to consider in Cala Blanca. It is a beach bar with a large outdoor area, an informal atmosphere and an offer focused on cocktails, mixed drinks, soft drinks and homemade snacks. The establishment itself highlights its views over the Mediterranean and the possibility of watching the sunset from there.

Its location on the western coast of Ciutadella makes it a potentially favourable point from which to follow the eclipse on 12 August. In addition, its usual opening hours, from midday until 1 am, cover the entire duration of the phenomenon.

However, visibility may vary depending on the place occupied within the venue. Some references indicate that from certain points in the bar the Sun cannot be seen completely until it disappears below the horizon. It will therefore be essential to confirm with the establishment which area will allow it to be observed without obstacles when it is very low over the sea.

As of 4 August, no verifiable announcement has been found of a celebration, entrance fee or special menu related to the eclipse. Its inclusion is therefore based on its location, views and its character as a bar specialising in sunsets.

One of the best-positioned gastronomic areas

The inclusion of Bahia, The Blarney Stone, Il Vespro and Hola Ola reinforces the importance of the western coast of Ciutadella on the gastronomic map of the eclipse. Santandria and Cala Blanca have well-established, accessible terraces that are accustomed to welcoming customers looking to dine while watching the sunset.

The Blarney Stone, Il Vespro and Hola Ola appear, because of their position facing the open coast of Cala Blanca, to be especially well located. Bahia is also a notable alternative, although its position inside Santandria cove makes it even more necessary to check the exact viewing angle.

At none of the three establishments has a published and verifiable special proposal related to the eclipse been found as of 4 August. The most rigorous approach is to present them as restaurants with a potentially favourable location and to recommend that interested customers directly confirm visibility, availability, booking conditions and the possible existence of a special menu or service for that day.

Booking is not enough: visibility must be confirmed

When choosing a restaurant, the essential question is not only whether a table is available. It is necessary to ask specifically whether the reserved space has a direct and unobstructed view towards the west, whether approved glasses are included, whether there will be a set menu or minimum spend and whether guests will be able to stand up or move to a communal area during totality.

Traffic restrictions must also be taken into account. The Government is planning controls and regulations between 3 and 9 pm on access roads to lighthouses, natural areas, viewpoints and other sensitive locations. For this reason, a restaurant reservation does not eliminate the risk of traffic queues or guarantee that it will be possible to arrive at the last minute.

With only eight days remaining before the eclipse, the most complete confirmed options are Artrutx Sea Club, Torre Vella, Vestige Son Ermità and Menorca Experimental. Coral Menorca, Eolo Sunset Bar, Club Menorca, Hola Ola, Bahia, The Blarney Stone, Il Vespro and other coastal terraces may offer an interesting location, but there is no public record of them having created a special proposal. In all these cases, the most honest recommendation is to call before booking and not to assume that any table with a sea view will allow guests to see the eclipsed Sun.
