Menorca Opening closes to the rhythm of Maika Makovski

The first edition of Menorca Opening came to an end this Friday with an emotional event at the Teatre des Born, attended by the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, and her Menorcan counterpart, Adolfo Vilafranca, the driving force behind an initiative that brought together more than 60 cultural proposals from different fields. “It has not just been a series of activities; it has been a reflection of the privileged cultural moment we are experiencing in Menorca,” said Vilafranca. The musical highlight was provided by Mallorcan artist Maika Makovski with her distinctive performance, which earned the applause of a full theatre.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the event began with a tribute to Sílvia Anglada and Toni Tarragó, from Es Tast de na Sílvia, for their mentoring work over the past five years in the Jove Xef program. In addition, Bep Al·lès was also honored for his work in promoting, disseminating, and researching Menorcan gastronomy, especially following the inclusion of his website, foodiesonmenorca.com, in the global Top 10 Foodie Websites 2026 by IGCAT.

The event also featured an institutional welcome by Adolfo Vilafranca, who highly valued the first edition of an Opening focused on culture. “We are very satisfied because this Opening was created for the people of Menorca, to bring cultural proposals closer to them, make them more accessible, and give greater visibility to talent. It has been exceptionally well received, which positions it as a project with continuity,” Vilafranca stated.

The president then gave the floor to an emotional Marga Prohens, who congratulated the initiative, and described culture as “a driving force that generates cohesion and a sense of community, as well as an educational engine because it fosters critical thinking and helps us understand the world.” “Menorca today has a cultural ecosystem with limitless creative potential,” Vilafranca concluded, committing the Council to “support, provide stability, contribute to its projection, and enhance all present and future talent in Menorca.”

The President of the Government followed the same line as Vilafranca, congratulated Menorca for the cultural showcase presented, and encouraged the Council to continue the initiative.

Finally, Maika Makovski took the microphone and made the stage her own, offering attendees a unique experience—open to many interpretations—serving as a perfect metaphor for an Opening that has allowed people to see, discover, and enjoy many facets of Menorca’s artistic expression.
