Foodies on Menorca
The municipality of Es Mercadal will become, on March 21 and 22, 2026, the epicenter of an experience that blends tradition, landscape, and gastronomy, with a clear appeal for residents and foodie travelers. The Morphological Contest of the Native Sheep of Menorca not only highlights this emblematic breed but also opens the door to discovering it through taste.
Throughout the weekend, the fairgrounds will host the evaluation and selection of the best specimens, but the gastronomic highlight will take place on Sunday. From 11 a.m., the competition of formatjades made with 100% Menorcan lamb becomes one of the most anticipated events, featuring reinterpretations of this local culinary classic and a tasting session that will allow visitors to explore its nuances and quality.
The program is enriched with a show cooking session focused on local products and a food market bringing together island producers. This combination offers an immersive experience where visitors can closely learn about the ingredients, processes, and stories that define Menorcan cuisine, all in a relaxed atmosphere with live music.
At the same time, activities such as sheepdog competitions, demonstrations, and wool workshops provide context and reinforce the link between gastronomy and territory, showcasing the importance of rural life in the island’s identity. Altogether, it creates an appealing proposal for those seeking more than a conventional visit, turning it into a getaway full of local flavor.
In addition, the culinary offer is enhanced with a free tasting of lamb cooked in different ways, an opportunity to explore the versatility of this star product, from traditional recipes to more innovative creations. The participation of professionals and hospitality training centers brings a contemporary perspective that dialogues with traditional cuisine.
The local product market completes the experience with a selection of locally sourced foods, allowing visitors to discover and purchase authentic Menorcan products. With bar service available throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a complete experience to taste, share, and connect with the island’s gastronomic essence.
Sunday 22 from 11:00 a.m.: “5th Menorca Lamb Formatjades Competition”.
Sunday 22 from 12:30 p.m.: free tasting of lamb prepared in different ways.
