Foodies on Menorca
The grilled beef fillet is one of the specialities at Grill Restaurant L'Àncora, in Cala en Blanes, a family-run establishment that will close its doors permanently on 25 October 2026. After decades of activity, the Galán family's restaurant is saying goodbye to its customers, bringing to an end a long history associated with home-style cooking, traditional recipes and, above all, meats grilled over holm oak wood.
The beef fillet perfectly reflects the restaurant's approach to cooking. Prepared over the grill, it develops a golden, lightly seared surface that contrasts with the characteristic tenderness of this cut of meat. A few flakes of coarse salt enhance its flavour, without the need for sauces or elaborate preparations. It is served with French fries and white rice, a simple combination that allows the quality of the meat and the flavour imparted by the grill to take centre stage.
One of L'Àncora's main attractions has always been its straightforward cooking, using meat sourced from butcher shops in Ciutadella and prepared using the traditional technique of grilling over holm oak wood. Entrecôtes, chops and other beef cuts have shared the menu with rice dishes, grilled fish, home-style recipes and seafood specialities.
At Foodies on Menorca, we recommend making the most of these final days before the permanent closure on 25 October to enjoy its beef fillet and grilled meats. It is also an opportunity to bid farewell to a restaurant which has been operating since 1982 and leaves behind a long tradition of family cooking in Cala en Blanes.
