Gabriel Pons Landino crowned Young Menorcan Chef 2026

Menorca’s culinary heritage took centre stage once again this Saturday, 31 January, at the IES Maria Àngels Cardona, which hosted a new edition of the Jove Xef Menorquí 2026 competition. More than one hundred attendees gathered to witness a celebration of tradition, creativity and emerging island talent.

This year, the four contestants were challenged to prepare “ous plens” (Stuffed eggs) with almond sauce, an iconic recipe from Menorcan cuisine, reimagined with innovation while remaining deeply rooted in local flavours and ingredients.

The winner was Gabriel Pons Landino, whose dish impressed the jury with its flawless technique, rich taste and elegant presentation. With this achievement, he will go on to represent Menorca at the European Young Chef Award, to be held in Gozo, Malta.

The jury brought together some voices from Menorca’s gastronomic scene, all of whom praised the exceptionally high level of the participants in this competition, held within the framework of the Menorca European Region of Gastronomy project.

Beyond the contest itself, the event also featured complementary activities open to the public, highlighting local produce: a talk on healthy culinary habits and a children’s workshop where traditional “cocas” were prepared in a fun pizzeta style.
