The chef's career and the successes he has achieved motivate this recognition, which names him one of the spokesmen of Menorcan gastronomy.
The young chef José María Borrás has been named the new ambassador of Menorca European Region of Gastronomy 2022. The president of the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation and the Island Council, Adolfo Vilafranca, was in charge of presenting the distinction to the young chef as one of the authorized spokesmen of Menorcan gastronomy, accompanied by the director of the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, Begoña Mercadal. Borrás, who was recently named best young chef in Spain and Portugal thanks to his victory in the Regional Final of the San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy competition, has participated in several editions of the Young Menorcan Chef competition.
Menorca European Region of Gastronomy 2022 aims to reward not only Borrás' creativity in the kitchen, but also the balance he shows in his proposals between the flavors and ingredients typical of Menorcan cuisine and the use of local products from the island, with the innovations typical of haute cuisine. The chef will participate in the San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy world competition in 2025 and is also a candidate for the Chef Revelation award at Madrid Fusión 2026.
It is important for Menorca to be part of the European Region of Gastronomy, as it symbolizes the values ??of gastronomic culture as a stimulus to empower the local community in the care and promotion of traditions, culture, crafts and the commitment to sustainable tourism, the Foundation explains.
In recent years, Menorca European Region of Gastronomy 2022 has incorporated as ambassadors the various winners of the Young Menorcan Chef competition, as well as other figures who stand out for their links with the island, their career and the merits achieved in their fields.
