Ca na Fayas, almost a century of Menorcan produce and family tradition

Ca na Fayas is much more than a traditional grocery shop. This family-run establishment in Ciutadella preserves the spirit of local commerce and has become a leading destination for discovering artisan cheeses, cured meats and other gastronomic specialities made in Menorca.

Its origins date back to between 1925 and 1927, when Maria Allès and Sebastià Fayas opened a small grocery shop in Carrer de Sant Onofre. Alongside fruit, vegetables and everyday provisions, they sold products made during the family’s traditional pig slaughter, including sobrasada, carn-i-xulla, cuixot, butifarrón sausages and pork. 

In 1946, their daughter Maria Fayas revived the family business with her husband, Joan Triay, and broadened its selection. Artisan cheeses from Menorcan farms gradually gained importance and became one of the shop’s defining specialities. The family selected cheeses directly from local farms and carefully supervised their ageing to ensure quality and character. 

During the 1980s, Catalina Triay, known as Nina Fayas, took over the business. Today, her daughters Maria and Teresa represent the family’s fourth generation. The shop retains the welcoming character of a traditional neighbourhood grocery while offering cheeses, cured meats, pastries, sweets, honey, preserves, wines, liqueurs, oils and Menorcan gift hampers. 

Ca na Fayas remains firmly committed to local produce and personal service, while its online shop now brings the flavours of Menorca to customers beyond the island.
