Binifadet, more than forty years reviving wine culture in Menorca

Binifadet winery is today one of the leading references of wine in Menorca, but its origins lie in a story of passion and perseverance that began in 1982. It was then that Menorcan Carlos Anglés decided to revive a tradition that had almost disappeared from the island: winemaking. With the help of his father, known as “grandfather Buri”, he planted up to forty different grape varieties to experiment and discover which were best suited to Menorca’s climate and soil.

For two decades, production remained small-scale and family-based, until the project took a decisive step towards professionalisation in 2000. The winery was officially inaugurated in 2004, launching its first two wines, a white and a red. More than twenty years later, Binifadet now offers a range of fourteen wines, including whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, sweet wines and distinctive creations such as orange wines.

Managing fifteen hectares of vineyards—thirteen of them owned—Binifadet is also strongly committed to recovering and promoting Menorca’s native grape varieties. This line of work has already borne fruit with the release of Foraster, made from garnacha blanca and giró ros.

The winery features its own restaurant and offers guided tours open to the public, allowing visitors to explore its history, learn about the winemaking process and enjoy tastings in a privileged setting. An ideal experience to understand the present and future of Menorcan wine.
