Foodies on Menorca
As for Three Kings’ Day, what has remained in our festive gastronomy is the Three Kings’ cakes, or candied-fruit cakes, which according to tradition were left out on the night of the 5th so that the Kings could have supper.
These candied-fruit cakes are made with ensaimada dough or coca bamba dough, and they are shaped like half an orange. They are usually topped with five colorful candied fruits, and it is customary to eat them as an afternoon snack, accompanied by hot chocolate.
Another sweet treat we have on this day—although more typical for the little ones at home—is the sweet carabó, made with the same recipe and method as Sant Joan sweets, but with black food coloring.
