Son Frau vineyards join the Land Stewardship programme

The Son Frau estate, located in the Sant Climent area, has recently joined the Land Stewardship programme through the signing of a new collaboration agreement with GOB. With this addition, there are now 43 active Land Stewardship agreements on the island.

Son Frau covers 33.8 hectares and is fully managed under organic farming practices. The estate is currently mainly focused on wine production, although it also has olive trees and plans to complement its activity with vegetable farming in the future. In July 2024, the first organic grape harvest was obtained, and this year they are producing their first vintage of wine, which will begin to be marketed next year.

Tradition, respect for nature and innovation

The Son Frau project was created with the aim of restoring an abandoned site and transforming it into a productive and sustainable entity, integrating natural processes, the community and technology. Its holistic approach seeks to keep all elements of agricultural production aligned with tradition and respect for nature.

It is also a women-led project, with a very young agricultural technician—just over twenty years old—who stands out for her drive and initiative. Planting began in 2023, and in a very short time the estate has already achieved its first production milestones.

Agreements to care for the land

Land Stewardship agreements are mutual support pacts between GOB and farmers, based on a shared vision of the agricultural future: a resilient and sustainable model that recognises and supports the work of farmers committed to caring for the environment and the landscape.
