Mercadona maintains a constant collaboration with suppliers and integrated suppliers specialists in those areas where it has a presence and develops its activity, which contributes to the growth of the local economy. Its commitment to the agri-food sector in the Balearic Islands is reflected in the increase in the volume of purchases that it carried out during the previous year from 40 product suppliers.

On the other hand, Mercadona's investment in the Balearic Islands rose in 2024 to 34.5 million euros. Of this total, 33.8 million euros have been allocated to improving the store network and implementing the new Ready to Eat section, and 735,000 euros to the logistical optimization of the storage located in Mercapalma and the construction of the new corporate offices in Palma.

Regarding the improvement of the store network, the company opened 3 supermarkets, renovated 3 more to adapt them to the efficient store model and closed another 3 that did not comply with the quality standards required by the company, so that at the end of 2024 it had 42 efficient supermarkets out of a total of 49.

At the same time, Mercadona has once again reaffirmed its commitment to stable and quality employment by creating 247 new jobs, which means that it has a workforce of 3,024 people in the Balearic Islands.

Shared growth

At Mercadona, the commitment to quality guides every decision, including the selection of the 2,100 suppliers and integrated product specialists with whom it collaborates, which translates into a firm commitment to the Spanish primary sector. For this reason, Mercadona continues to strengthen ties with the strategic Spanish agri-food sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fishing and aquaculture, reinforcing with all of them its commitment to stability, planning, future projection, security in purchasing and specialization.

The company also has the work and leadership of 14,000 non-commercial and service suppliers (370 in the Balearic Islands), among which are more than 400 transporters, thus consolidating an ecosystem that, through transparency, communication and trust, is a growth engine for those areas where it has a presence and carries out its activity. An example of this is that in 2024 Mercadona's purchases in Spain reached 29 billion euros, 8% more than the previous year. In this way, Spanish suppliers assume a relevant role in Mercadona's assembly chain, since their joint involvement allows us to continue promoting and consolidating a shared growth project.
