L’Àncora in Cala en Blanes to close as restaurant goes up for sale

L’Àncora restaurant in Cala en Blanes, Ciutadella, will close its doors on Sunday 25 October 2026, coinciding with the end of the tourist season. This year, however, the farewell has a particular significance: the Galán family's establishment has recently been put up for sale, marking the end of the current chapter for this well-known restaurant in the Torre del Ram area.

Located on Avinguda Simón de Olivar, L’Àncora has been one of Cala en Blanes' dining establishments, offering an extensive menu designed for both residents and visitors spending their holidays in the residential and tourist areas of western Ciutadella.

Over the years, its menu has combined grilled meats, rice dishes, fish, seafood and homemade pizzas, with a family-style approach and a selection catering to different tastes and customers.

Foodies on Menorca had recently highlighted its range of sixteen varieties of 32-centimetre homemade pizzas, including the Menorquina, with sobrassada, onion and honey; the Pescadora, with prawns, mussels, clams and tuna; and the L’Àncora pizza, with salmon, mushrooms and capers.

This latest development, however, goes beyond the usual end-of-season closure. The decision to put the restaurant up for sale raises questions about its future, and it is not yet possible to say whether restaurant operations will continue under new ownership or whether the premises will be used for another purpose.

L’Àncora's closure also highlights the importance of family-run businesses within Menorca's restaurant sector. Beyond tourism alone, these establishments form part of the commercial and gastronomic landscape of the island's residential and holiday areas.

Until 25 October, customers will still have the opportunity to return to L’Àncora and enjoy its cuisine before the Galán family brings this chapter to an end.
