Alaior opens the 38th Agricultural Fair with strong attendance and a leading role for the primary sector

Alaior inaugurated this Saturday the 38th edition of the Menorca Agricultural Fair, a key event for the farming and livestock sector both in the Balearic Islands and nationally. The fairgrounds, located in the La Trotxa industrial estate, hosted an opening day marked by high visitor turnout and a wide range of activities.

The fair began with the Friesian Dairy Cattle Morphological Contest, considered the most important event of its kind in the Balearic Islands and one of the most prominent in Spain. The opening ceremony was attended by institutional representatives from various administrations, who toured the stands and visited the competition at the municipal hall.

Throughout the day, the venue hosted a variety of activities aimed at both industry professionals and the general public, including Spanish purebred horse exhibitions, live music performances, and leisure activities. This year, the cattle competition brought together 185 animals from 34 livestock farms.

Public response was strong, with around 15,000 visitors attending the opening day and exploring the 107 exhibitors present. These figures confirm the fair’s continued growth and its role as a key meeting point for the primary sector.

Among this year’s new features is the upgrade of the competition arena’s lighting system, introducing new effects to enhance visibility and the overall spectacle.

The programme will continue on Sunday with further activities, including the Young Promises Contest, the parade of participating farms, and the award ceremony, which will close the competition. The venue will also host equestrian shows, musical performances and activities for all audiences.

Throughout the weekend, a free tourist train connects Alaior town centre with the fairgrounds, making access easier for visitors.

The Agricultural Fair thus consolidates its position as one of Menorca’s main events, highlighting the importance of the primary sector and reinforcing its key role in the island’s economy and identity.
