Ciutadella Harbour will host a new edition of Habanera Night on Thursday, 23 July, one of the musical events linked to the maritime celebrations in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The event will begin at 9.00 pm and will feature performances by the Menorcan group Xalandrí and the Catalan ensemble Port Bo.
Organised by Ciutadella Town Council, the evening aims to help preserve a musical genre closely connected to the sea, sailing and Mediterranean popular culture. Habaneras will once again be heard in one of the city’s most emblematic settings, during an event designed to be enjoyed beside the water.
Xalandrí will represent Menorcan talent in a programme that will also include Port Bo, one of the most historic and renowned groups in the Catalan habanera tradition. The Calella de Palafrugell-based ensemble has a long career devoted to promoting this traditional repertoire, including maritime songs that form part of the collective memory of several generations.
Habanera Night forms part of the celebrations held in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Ciutadella Harbour, a deeply rooted festival among seafaring communities that brings together tradition, culture and popular activities every summer.
The event is organised with the collaboration of PortsIB and Amics de la Mar de Menorca. Admission will be free, and the performances will begin at 9.00 pm.
