The Economics department supports the promotion of COINGA products

The Executive Council of the Insular Council of Menorca has approved the collaboration agreement between the administration and the Cooperativa Insular Ganadera de Menorca (COINGA) in order to support the campaigns for the dissemination and promotion of its products and the assistance to fairs during the period of the calendar year 2024. The aim of this agreement is to improve the knowledge of Menorca's products and promote their commercialization and their presence in the different markets.

The Cooperativa Insular Ganadera de Menorca (COINGA) is an entity that was established in 1966 as a grouping of cattle producers in order to provide a solution to the fact that for many years Menorcan cattle farmers had to make cheese on their farms and subsequently commercialize them at the prices that were imposed on them and that did not compensate them for the work done.

In this way, the Department of Economy and General Services of the Insular Council of Menorca grants a nominative aid of 42,500 euros to deal with actions such as attendance at fairs, both national and international, the realization of tastings at points sales, markets and own store, product presentation improvement designs and other advertising campaigns and promotional material (such as advertisements and posters).

The approval of this agreement with COINGA has a direct economic impact on the Menorcan economy, since COINGA is the largest producer of products with the Mahón-Menorca Protected Designation of Origin, and is also the Menorca cooperative that collects the most raw material for the production of this local product. Currently, the sales volume of COINGA represents approximately 40% of the total sales of Mahón-Menorca Protected Designation of Origin cheese.
