The Menorca Biosphere Reserve Agency of the Island Council of Menorca presents the eighth edition of the Viu Menorca Biosfera programme, a series of free activities aimed at bringing citizens closer to the social, cultural and environmental values of the Biosphere Reserve. This edition includes eight activities scheduled over several weekends between April and November 2026.

This programme, already established in the island’s calendar of events, offers a variety of experiences covering areas such as agriculture and local production, maritime history, forests, cultural heritage, traditional crafts, landscape and biodiversity. Its main objective is to promote sustainability awareness and show how economic and cultural development can coexist in balance with environmental preservation.

The councillor for Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Local Cooperation, Simón Gornés, highlighted that this eighth edition consolidates the programme as a key tool for outreach and awareness. “Viu Menorca Biosfera allows us to bring people closer to our territory in a direct and experiential way. It is an opportunity to better understand the values that define Menorca as a Biosphere Reserve and to strengthen the collective commitment to its preservation.”

Among this year’s activities are a visit to a farm to learn about the traditional cheese-making process, a route to the Favàritx lighthouse to discover the history of lighthouses and lighthouse keepers, a forest outing to understand the role of forests and land management, and an activity dedicated to the Menorcan horse breed with a live demonstration. The programme also includes a session to discover the Mahón game, a boat trip around the port of Maó to learn about traditional trades and shellfishing, a mycological outing to identify mushrooms and understand their role in the ecosystem, and a day dedicated to the island’s artisan crafts.
