Ferreries’ Plaça d’Espanya was buzzing yesterday, Saturday (17 January 2026), as the town hosted one of the most anticipated Sant Antoni highlights: the 13th Paella Contest – Sant Antoni 2026, organised by Cas Vesins. Scheduled to start at 11:00, the event quickly turned the main square into an open-air community dining room, with groups of friends and families setting up tables, burners and firewood from early on.
The strong turnout was plain to see in the steady flow of people and the lively atmosphere throughout the morning—woodsmoke in the air, the scent of sautéed onions and peppers drifting across the square, and the easy back-and-forth of neighbours catching up between stirs of the pan. While the contest element adds excitement, the day once again underlined what Sant Antoni in Ferreries does best: bringing people together around tradition, food and shared time.
The programme continued into the afternoon with a codolades after-lunch gathering and the presentation of the 8th Joan F. López Casasnovas Awards, set for 15:00 in the same square, rounding off a day defined by participation and community spirit.
