Destilerías Xoriguer facilities affected by the collapse of a roadway and part of the cliff at the Port of Maó where they are located

The facilities of Destilerías Xoriguer have suffered damage following the collapse of Costa des Muret and part of the cliff at the Port of Maó, where the premises are located. As the landslide occurred in the early hours of the morning, no personal injuries were reported, and the material damage has been limited to the courtyard used for storage and the bottling area.

After being alerted by employees, Maó firefighters arrived at the distillery early in the morning and instructed workers to evacuate the premises. Together with municipal technicians, they carried out an initial inspection to assess the damage. Officers from the Local, National and Port Police, as well as the Guardia Civil, were also present.

Following this inspection, initial work was agreed upon, consisting of the removal of stored materials from the courtyard to facilitate subsequent debris clearance. These tasks were completed early this afternoon. A new meeting between the owners and technical staff has been scheduled for next Tuesday to determine the next steps, which may include measures to secure the cliff.

Meanwhile, production and administrative activities remain suspended. Commercial activity, however, continues both from the company’s warehouse at POIMA and from its shop in Plaza del Carmen in Maó. In this regard, Destilerías Xoriguer stresses that it currently has sufficient stock to meet customer demand.
