Foodies on Menorca
The Cercle Artístic of Ciutadella will host on March 14 at 8:00 p.m. the presentation of the book Els noms populars dels nivolats, boires i vents de Menorca, a work dedicated to collecting and studying the traditional names of meteorological phenomena on the island. The event will take place at the Cercle Artístic headquarters, located at Plaça des Born, 19.
The book, awarded the 1st Pere Melis Pons Prize, highlights the linguistic and cultural heritage linked to Menorca’s popular meteorology, recovering and documenting the names traditionally used to identify different types of clouds, fog and winds.
The presentation will feature Jordi Manent, author of the work and philologist; Issac Melis, representative of the Espipollant Association; Pere Gomila, writer and member of the IME; and Òscar Bagur, editor and also a philologist.
The event will present the contents of the book and offer a reflection on the importance of preserving popular vocabulary related to nature and climate, an important part of Menorca’s cultural and linguistic memory.
