Alaior will celebrate its big day at FITUR tomorrow with the attendance of Gabriel Escarrer and other prominent figures from the tourism sector. This year, the municipality is presenting a fully redesigned stand, conceived as an open space that highlights Alaior’s cultural and artistic richness.
The stand recreates some of the town’s most emblematic features, such as the Sa Lluna courtyard —the cloister of the Convent of Sant Diego— and places the LÔAC – Alaior Art Contemporani centre stage. The LÔAC is positioned as one of Alaior’s flagship cultural assets and a high-level contemporary art showcase in the heart of Menorca. The aim is for visitors to feel as though they are stepping into these spaces, symbolically brought to Madrid.
With this new image, Alaior is strengthening its international promotion, placing cultural tourism at the core of its strategy to advance a quality tourism model.
During the first day, more than twenty professional meetings were held with agencies and operators specialising in active and cultural tourism, as well as with quality-tourism projects interested in bringing visitors to the municipality, particularly in spring and autumn.
In parallel, and along the same cultural-promotion line, contemporary artist Miguel Tadeo painted live at Alaior’s stand for more than two hours. Tadeo, who has an international profile and several works exhibited at the LÔAC, is creating a piece that is expected to be auctioned next June at Madrid City Hall, as part of an international auction houses’ congress. Last year, he auctioned a work at the same event, held at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, which was acquired by one of the most important auction houses in the United States.
Alaior’s main FITUR event will take place tomorrow at 12:00 and is expected to bring together a significant number of sector professionals and national media. Confirmed attendees include Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman of Meliá Hotels International, among other leading tourism representatives. Meanwhile, activity at the stand will continue with further meetings, also with institutional representatives such as the Italian ambassador and the Australian ambassador.
Alaior’s mayor, José Luis Benejam, gave a very positive assessment of the first day, noting that “it has been a very good, intense day, and a great deal of work is being done,” and emphasising the importance of the municipality’s presence at FITUR, “where the tourism industry that underpins the wellbeing of Alaior’s residents is set in motion.”
