The city of Palma will host the first edition of the Palma Sardine Fair from May 15 to 18, 2025, at the Fishermen's Quay. This event was promoted by the Fishermen's Guild in collaboration with the City Council. This initiative was created to showcase Mallorcan sardines and bluefish, highlighting their nutritional value, as well as their role in local gastronomy and the island's fishing tradition.
The first edition of the Palma Sardine Fair aims to promote local and locally sourced produce, strengthening its presence in Mallorca's gastronomic and cultural offerings. This is an opportunity for residents, visitors, and tourists to discover, appreciate, and enjoy the wealth offered by the Balearic Sea, thus contributing to the development of the fishing, restaurant, and sustainability sectors.
The fair will feature a gastronomic area, an exhibition dedicated to organizations related to fishing, marine preservation, and the environment, as well as a children's area and a space for local crafts.
Four days of the fair will feature a wide and varied program that will include live music, workshops, family entertainment, seafaring parades, and the presentation of the Sardina d'Or awards, which will recognize fishing history, gastronomic innovation, and commitment to marine preservation.
On Thursday, May 15, the fair will officially open with the arrival of the fishermen, the lighting of embers, and a habanera concert. During the remaining days, we can expect outstanding activities related to fishing and marine culture, workshops by the Palma Aquarium Foundation, and musical sessions with various local DJs.
In addition, and within the framework of the Palma Sardine Fair, the first Sustainable Fishing Conference in Palma will be held, aimed at industry professionals. It will include a series of presentations and institutional and technical interventions on the current state of fishing in Mallorca.
These conferences, organized by the Palma Fishermen's Association, feature the participation of the Mallorca Maritime Museum, the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA-UIB), the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, and the Local Fisheries Action Group (GALP Mallorca). They also include presentations from training centers and institutional representatives from the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) and Palma City Council.
The organization is supported by the Palma City Council and PalmaActiva; the Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency (ADR Balears); Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, the Government of the Balearic Islands through the Departments of Business, Occupation and Energy as well as that of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Medicine; the Consell de Mallorca and various agents of the island's gastronomic sector.
All this to ensure that the Palma Sardine Fair is consolidated as a benchmark annual event in Palma, uniting local products, marine dissemination and gastronomic experience.
